JAMES C. "JIM" MILLER

Jim Miller is a native of Brookville, PA, born March 4, 1946 to Cameron and Lois Miller. Growing up, he was a member of Boy Scout Troop 65 where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1962. Miller attended Brookville High School and graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA in 1968 and 1971, respectively. 

Upon graduation in 1968, he was commissioned into the Army as a Field Artillery Officer. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969 - 1970 where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
 
Jim and the former Nancy Shannon, of Dubois, were married in 1971 and are the parents of five children (John, Andrew and his wife Lauren, Abby, Emily and Daniel) and proud grandparents of Margot, Ted, and Samantha Miller.
 
Miller began his banking career in 1971 as Marketing Manager for the Brookville Bank and Trust Company. The Bank was acquired by S&T Bank in 1983. At the time of the merger, the combined bank had 13 offices and $360 million in total assets. Jim was named Executive Vice President, and under the mentorship of Bob Duggan, he helped set S&T on a growth path that continues to the present time under the leadership of President and CEO Todd Brice.

Jim was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of S&T in 1993. He was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in 1998 and served in that capacity for 10 years until his retirement in 2008. He also served as Chairman of the Board of S&T from 2004 to 2013. During his tenure as President, S&T expanded from $1.1 billion in 1983 to $4.4 billion in total assets at the time of his retirement in 2008. Jim played a leadership role in a number of acquisitions during that
period, including the 1997 merger of Peoples Bank of Unity, the 2002 acquisition of Peoples Financial Corporation, and the 2008 merger of Irwin Bank and Trust Company.
 
Jim also oversaw the transition to S&T’s new headquarters in Downtown Indiana in 2005. This type of steadfast growth led to S&T achieving the number 2 spot on the Bank Director Magazine list of the Top Performing Banks in 2005. His leadership also helped achieve a number of other accolades for S&T, including being listed among the Top 50 of the “100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania”
 
Miller has held various leadership positions with local organizations over the years. The list includes: Chairman of the Indiana Hospital Board of Directors and Indiana Healthcare Foundation; Campaign Manager, Director and President of the Indiana County United Way; President of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce and ICDC; President of the Foundation for IUP; Director of the Alice Paul House; and President of Downtown Indiana. He currently continues to serve as a Director of S&T Bank and as a member of the IUP Council of Trustees
 
Jim has received various recognitions and awards for his community involvement, including the Penns Woods Council of the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award and the IUP Presidents Medal of Distinction.
